The Brevard Rosenwald School

The Brevard Rosenwald School, named in honor of philanthropist Julius Rosenwald, relates the history of a school for black students in Transylvania County, North Carolina.

It documents attempts to improve the education of African Americans in the South and relates details about the school’s beginnings, development, significance to the community, and closing, as well as the process of integration with white schools and describes today’s Rosenwald community. Narratives from former students about their experiences and educational goals, pursuits and accomplishments at the school and later in their lives enrich this school’s history.
